About P.S. 46Q
P.S. 46Q, The Alley Pond School, is a community that will provide a quality, standards driven environment that is conducive to hands-on inquiry based learning where students are encouraged to query, apply, and extend their understanding of the world through problem-solving, high order thinking, and enhanced decision-making skills. We will provide all students with the educational opportunities to learn to the best of their abilities and to meet or to exceed the Common Core Learning Standards. We seek to provide a rigorous curriculum for all children through the differentiation of curriculum and instructional strategies in order to maximize success for all students. Through the joint efforts of our learning community, we have focused on a balanced developmental educational program that works to ensure that our students will become productive, informed, literate, and responsible citizens who demonstrate respect and concern for all people.
Acting Principal
Dr. David LaPoma is a former Science, Horizon, and ACES teacher, Assistant Principal, and Extended School Year Site Supervisor for Districts 24, 25, and 26. As an administrator, he focused on creating a school environment for all students. Inclusivity is a core value he believes elevates the school experience for all students. Every student deserves success, and success is different for every student. One student’s best may be a high grade on a challenging topic while others may be working towards independence. Dr. LaPoma believes in a school that supports each other as we all work to meet our goals. A school can be rigorous and challenging while also maintaining care and compassion. A school is best when it feels like a family and has a growth mindset at its core. He believes in the vision of P.S. 46Q helping students as learners today to become leaders of their lives tomorrow!
Assistant Principal
Stephanie Famoso was born and raised in Whitestone, Queens. She began her career as a paraprofessional and quickly realized that being an educator was her life’s dream. She continued her career as a teacher, discovering along the way that every child has the ability to learn with a little tender love and care. In a short time, she achieved her ultimate goal of becoming an administrator. Mrs. Famoso has always wanted to change children’s lives and make them see the best in themselves; a mission she strives to accomplish every day for every student.
Our Vision
P.S. 46Q supports all students including Special Education and English as a New Language Learners to become productive and innovative citizens of the 21st century. We strive to empower our children throughout all academic areas including reading, writing, math, science, social studies, the arts, physical education and technology indoctrinating them in our vision that what they learn today inspires them to lead tomorrow.
Parents and Families
Families have a vital role in supporting their children's consistent attendance in school. Schools and families can develop partnerships to help students to stay focused on good attendance and strong academic performance. Here at P.S. 46Q we have a close relationship with our students’ parents and families. We have our parent engagement weekly to discuss how we can make this the best learning experience as well as our Coffee with the Principal to discuss news and events about our school and students and to answer our parents’ questions.
